Radio Interview at WIOX: Nikita talks about sustainability with the NY Watershed Agricultural Council
Nikita chats with Joshua VanBrakle and Tara Collins of the NY Watershed Agricultural Council. Topics range from living and working in the Catskills to sustainable design and production. Nikita talks about how his designs have evolved from the first patented futon sofabed (which was granted to him while living in upstate New York in the 1980s) to his new and current line of Convertible Furnishings for Indoors AND Outdoors. Josh, Tara and Nikita talk about mass-customization for wood products and the need to build durable goods that WON’T end up in our land fills. Its an interesting and fun “listen” – so we invite you to relax, just lean back and listen to the conversation. http://www.nycwatershed.org/wiox041311.html
Training your luxurious futon mattress to bend
Futons have evolved in thickness and plushness, whether they be a firm wool wrap or soft touch or visco coil. How do these mattresses of 8 inches or more adapt to dual duty for couches and sleeping? Joanne demonstrates a solution to breaking in a visco coil mattress so it easily converts from bed to couch. Enjoy this Youtube Nikita video.

Here’s a man cave I could live with … ready for the 2011 Super Bowl XLV Sunday game
Last spring I posted about Nikita Convertibles being perfect for the “man cave” environment and asked readers to send pics of their own man caves. Here’s a response to my query, courtesy of Pat F. from Clifton Park, NY.
Pat’s man cave is furnished with a Nikita Scandia Sofabed, Chair and Ottoman of cherry wood with oil finish. The chair’s box cushions are Faux Leather (a washable fabric called Pecos). The sofabed sports a Feathertouch mattress with a slip cover of “Atomic” pattern fabric. The Scandia sofa “leans back” and converts to a full size bed (hope the game and quirky commercials aren’t snoozers!). The chair and ottoman combo make a cot size bed. The Nikita chair has our sure stop recline feature for finding the perfect lean back angle. Nice. This man cave is ready for the playoffs and the big day: Super Bowl Sunday. Hope the Jets make it! Did I mention the wall mounted flat screen TV in this basement man cave renovation? Not first on my list because I am coveting the rich cherry furniture.
Hurry on down to Nikita Convertibles at 7 Elm Street, Oneonta, NY or 508 Broadway, Saratoga Springs, and you can have furniture for your man cave ready by Super Bowl XLV (February 6, 2011). Or visit our website: JustLeanBack.com or our new Etsy Store.
The winner of our twin chaise…
At the close of the Saratoga Springs Victorian Streetwalk, harpist Karlinda Caldicott drew the name of one lucky person who will be having a relaxing holiday this year — for they have won a twin size Freedom Chaise package — frame, mattress and slip cover— from Nikita Indoor Outdoor Convertibles. Daniel Brudos of Schenectady was the lucky winner (pictured left on the showroom chaise).
Nikita Convertibles donates freedom frame sofabed to A.O. Fox Hospital Gala
In November, Nikita Indoor Outdoor donated a Freedom Frame Sofabed Package to the Twentieth Annual A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital Gala in Oneonta, NY. This year’s gala was huge success, raising over $70,000, which Fox Hospital will use to buy patient furniture and equipment, as well as provide additional funding for the Susan Remillard Scholarship.
Congratulations Bonnie C., a Fox employee and the lucky winner of the Freedom Frame Sofabed. Bonnie told us she was surprised to be the winner but that she was hoping for the sofabed as it will be perfect for visiting holiday guests.
Nikita Convertibles at Saratoga Springs Victorian Streetwalk 2010
The evening was enchanting. One of the loveliest of all evenings in Saratoga Springs is the Victorian Streetwalk and it happened again last evening, Thursday Dec. 3rd ( the Thursday following Thanksgiving). It started with a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus. What a delightful couple!
Then Karlinda Caldicott arrived and serenaded all of us for 2 hours with exquisite harp music. She played absolutely beautifully! Everyone was enchanted – from classical music enthusiasts, to rock n rollers, to professional musicians ( a few well-knowns from the Capital District were there) to babies in carriages and best friends on the floor. Even though the door was constantly opening as more and more strollers from the sidewalk would come in… it was still like a chamber music concert – everyone was quiet and listening. We want to make this a tradition at Nikita Indoor Outdoor Convertibles – so if you were not here last year or this year – be sure to come next year!
